Two tooling directions
Brake pad factories may need both brake pad pressing molds for friction material forming and backing plate stamping dies for steel back production. Importers and manufacturers usually start with a WVA, FMSI, OE, GDB/FDB number, drawing or physical sample, then confirm cavity quantity, press type and trial sample requirements.
Brake pad pressing molds
Pressing molds require accurate cavity dimensions, stable backing plate positioning, proper venting, easy demolding and compatibility with the customer press. For new brake pad programs, mold accuracy affects friction block shape, edge consistency and production repeatability.
Backing plate stamping dies
Stamping dies control profile, holes, slots, ears and retention features of the steel backing plate. Progressive dies can improve efficiency for mass production, while simpler tooling can be suitable for lower-volume model development or sample confirmation.
How tooling projects start
A tooling project usually starts from WVA, FMSI, OE reference, drawing or physical sample, followed by design confirmation, trial sample and adjustment.
What to send before quotation
Send drawings, samples, WVA/FMSI/OE/GDB/FDB references, target product photos, required cavity number, press information, required steel back features and expected production volume. Clear tooling RFQ information helps reduce redesign rounds and shortens sample lead time.
